MIA
It's difficult to sleep when Alison's not next to me. Of course, I can fall asleep easily under normal circumstances, when I know she'll atleast be coming to bed. But the house is so empty right now. I tried to sleep in the middle of the bed, so that it gets worn in like each of our canoes on either side of the middle, but it wasn't comfortable. I woke up at midnight in my usual canoe.
I don't spend much time here, and the house is lifeless; it's almost just a place where my cats live. They're so excited to see me when I am here.
I've got a lot of car maintenance to do this weekend, (brakes and oil, wash and wax), before I drive up next week. And speaking of driving, I don't think I'd go if I didn't owe mom's kayaks to her. Holy cow, 3.39 for gas in Indiana? I am contemplating filling a huge plastic tank at 2.88 on base and just whipping it out when I need gas along the way. Sorry anyone who lives in California. That's just the price of happy cows.

Special for Lope
Penny bought a couple chairs a while back, and we've been waiting for a good opportunity to reupholster them. Today was my chance, while I waited and waited and waited and waited for a new air conditioner, so if you click on the image, you can see the process in work...

Getting Work Done
Tonight Alison passed on a deep tissue massage a friend had offered. So I volunteered myself. And then I thought about it... um, do I have to undress? Is there going to be funny music and insense? Hmm... do I really want to do this?
And there was funny music. I believe it was from that "relaxing cd collection", with the buttons that you push at Target to luer you into buying "Celtic Breeze" or "Moonlight Echos." Only this was deep sea whales. Which is what I was: A big piece of blubber hanging off the table.
And I was relaxed. It was actually a really nice thing to experience. I have never been more aware of my skeleton. My skull. It was like, "there is my eye-socket." "There's my cheekbones, and that's how they connect to my teeth."
Then it was "I am going to die." I am not my thoughts, my consciousness, but really I am flesh and bone and synapse. That and "I am going to die because this crazy old lady is going to either break that knot free or break the bones protecting my heart from the backside."
But overall, if you haven't had a massage like that, you'd aught to.

Farewell
Friday I drove down the road, watching my boat pull away from me behind another vehicle. It sold. The buyer had two blonde-headed boys, 2 and 4, and they were so excited to have a boat. They made me feel like I'd made the right decision. Monday I'll use the money for a new Heater and Air Conditioner. How grown up is that?
Don't we use the term 'grown up' as a blanket mask to hide the truth? It's mature, responsible, and generally not-sexy. There's no going fast. There's no growling motor. A loud motor is actually warantee'd against in this case. For ten years.
And the reason I titled this post 'farewell' is because last night I was 'farewelled.' I moved jobs, and my old bosses wanted to say goodbye. Alison came along, and it was very nice to talk with everyone one last time. A little red wine always turns Alison into a socialite, and I was the one pulling her away at the end of the night.
