I'm finding it difficult to be resolute with plans in 2009, let alone have enough perspective to force some change within me by making 'resolutions.'
I have chosen one though: I'm giving up beer. And Regular Coke. And the reason is silly and materialistic, etc. I'm aging, and in order to stay in shape I need to control my diet. Right now I'm in really good shape everywhere but around my torso, where I am holding onto some beer and coke.
In the back of my mind I feel that my beer resolution is like rearranging chairs on the Titanic. Isn't there better things to do? Like steer the ship?
What are your resolutions?

refrain from commenting on people's blogs but it's not 2009 yet.:) Happy New Year, and if anyone deserves that it's you.

I think the simple resolutions are the good ones. They are realistic. Not too mention beer and coke can be a catalist for other changes. I hear ya about the coke part, though. That is my resolution as well. "It is just so good when it hits the lips" I cannot refuse.
ReplyDeleteI read cutting out those drinks will shed 20 lbs without exercising over 12 months. Good luck and may this year bring many new, wonderful and magical things your way. Here's to positive changes!
I resolve to continue drinking beer and Coke whenever possible, to serve as a cautionary example to you of what happens when men advance to the geriatric age of 31.
ReplyDeleteAnytime you get a hankering for a tall, frosty glass of anything, I'll whip off my shirt and change your mind.
I resolve to drink *more* beer in 2009. Being preggo, I haven't had a single drink in forever. So I'll drink all the beer you're going to be missing out on. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd maybe life's too short for "no beer". Maybe you could resolve to have one just occasionally. I find that being a total stickler is not worth it compared to just using common sense moderation. Gotta enjoy indulgences once in a while.
Mine are to keep working out I got about 10 to 15 more pounds to lose. To be happy and healthy for myself and for my little girls. So I hear you about being healthy.
ReplyDeleteLet's just say I resolve to not resolve but to *try* and not complain so much about the things that I cannot change.
ReplyDeleteresolutions have always been hard for me...
ReplyDeleteso last year, a number of us decided to pick words instead...
and for 2008, "see" was my word and somehow it ended up being the perfect word in many ways, but mostly because I ended up really getting into photography...
and now for 2009 I've chosen the word "look" which made me think for a minute that it was too close to "see"...but oh, I've already discovered how different they are from each other.
happy new year
Giving up beer...one resolution...if kept...you will never regret...trust me, I know about this.
ReplyDeleteI really don't have resolutions but goals.
ReplyDeleteI did my first half marathon in September and I want to do it again, but better.
I am getting my masters degree and I need to be more focused and less procrastination.
Exercise everyday and make it worth while.
Finally, compliment my husband more. I seem to only comment on what he doesn't do than on what he does do. I need to work extra hard on that!
Happy New Year to you! I am not sure I could give up coke. Beer, you just need one every once in a while. Good Luck!
My intentions this year are to live my life with strength and courage.... of which you and Ali are the perfect example. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings in such an amazing and beautiful way. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteStupid one - BUT I took off my fake fingernails. My nails haven't seen the light of day in ten years ... but it's unhealthy and it's EXPENSIVE and time consuming and frankly, why pay for something God allows me to do on my own.
ReplyDeleteSo I took them off New Year's Eve and I'm resolving to grow my own ...
Wish me luck!
I like that analogy - rearranging chairs on the titanic...
ReplyDeleteI am actually resolving to make things easier for myself - not to always over-do as much as I always do.
to be a better listener and live balanced.
ReplyDeleteThis is my year of doing. I have so many plans and great intentions of things I want to do, to accomplish, to experience. And yet, each days slips by as if I have no goals and no resolve to go after things I want. So this year I am going to do more, enjoy more, and live more
